The first time I returned to Magic Kingdom as an adult I was overwhelmed by nostalgia and absolutely had to have a balloon. I chose the classic foil Mickey – with Minnie on the other side – and carried it happily until I realized that you can’t take a balloon on rides. My joyful purchase became a burden before every attraction. I had to find places to tie it, hide it or cast members to hold it. It was half way through the day that I’d had enough. I spotted a sweet looking little girl leaving the park without a balloon and had the brilliant notion to pass it on. She was thrilled for the gift and I was thrilled to be free. I still do love a classic Mickey balloon, it’s just that now we have a stroller to tie it to.
