WALT DISNEY WORLD MONORAIL

When the doors open and I step onto a monorail car my Disney vacation has begun! Looking out the window from a blue vinyl seat, the announcer’s distinctive spiel brings me right back to childhood. It’s true that the ferryboat is a scenic way to cross the Seven Seas Lagoon, but a visit to Magic Kingdom park just wouldn’t be the same without the smooth glide of this classic ride.

The Resort Monorail line travels right through Disney’s Contemporary Resort, giving passengers a birds-eye view of the extraordinary tile mural by Disney Legend Mary Blair. It also stops at Magic Kingdom park, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and the Transportation and Ticket Center. The best way to enjoy unique views of Epcot are from the Epcot Monorail, of course! Choose the Epcot line at the Ticket and Transportation Center for a scenic introduction to the park.

The monorail fleet take their power from an electrified current that runs the length of the beam. They don’t emit pollutants of any kind. Thanks to daily servicing and preventative maintenance the Walt Disney World Monorail Transportation System runs at 99.9% efficiency – with an off week at 99.8% efficiency. On opening day in 1971 Walt Disney’s monorail looked like the future of green transportation. Fifty years later it still does.
